Already without Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar, India have been handed another injury scare as Axar Patel, the vice-captain, sustained an injury on his index finger after being hit by a shot from Daryl Mitchell and walked off the field midway through his fourth over. Given that there is only a day’s gap between the two matches, Axar is likely to be rested.

New Zealand also have injury concerns, as Michael Bracewell is doubtful for the T20I series after picking up a calf strain in the third ODI. Pace-bowling all-rounder Kristian Clarke has been added to New Zealand’s T20I squad, which will be captained by the returning Mitchell Santner. Matt Henry, Rachin Ravindra, Jimmy Neesham, and Ish Sodhi are also part of the T20I squad.
