Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor Market Size, Trends & Forecast

Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor, commonly referred to as Alpha1-Antitrypsin or AAT, is a protein synthesized by the liver that plays a critical role in protecting the lungs from inflammation-related damage. Its primary function is to inhibit the activity of neutrophil elastase, an enzyme released by white blood cells during the inflammatory response. If left uncontrolled, neutrophil elastase can damage lung tissue, potentially leading to conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema.
