Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor, commonly referred to as Alpha1-Antitrypsin or AAT, is a protein synthesized by the liver that plays a critical role in protecting the lungs from inflammation-related damage. Its primary function is to inhibit the activity of neutrophil elastase, an enzyme released by white blood cells during the inflammatory response.
