The microalbumin creatinine ratio test is a diagnostic procedure that evaluates minute quantities of a protein known as albumin within a urine sample. Albumin, also referred to as microalbumin, may serve as an early indicator of kidney disease. Normal kidney function is characterized by fine filtration capabilities that prevent substantial albumin molecules from being excreted in urine; consequently, only negligible amounts of albumin, if any, should be found in healthy individuals. However, an increase in urine albumin levels may indicate compromised kidney function.
